In July 2022, Delplant Civil Contractors were successful in award of the Design & Construct Inverloch SPS Renewal Tender for South Gippsland Water.
The project involved design and construction of 2No. new Sewer Pump Station facilities to upgrade/replace aging infrastructure at two separate sites in the tourist township of Inverloch (Lindsey Close SPS and Veronica Street SPS). For this project, Delplant teamed up with BECA to undertake all associated project design & engineering and Aquatec Enviro to supply and commission the sewer pump station and storage tank components.
Delplant was responsible for the following works:
- Install 2No. new Precast Concrete sewer pump stations (SPS) 2.25m diameter x 5.5m & 6m deep
- Install 3No. Fibreglass Emergency Storage Vessels 2x 78.5kL (16m x 2.5m dia) and 1x 50kL (11m x 2.5m dia) and associated emergency relief structures
- 310LM of replacement sewer rising main (DN180 HDPE) Installed via directional drill
- 185LM of new outfall sewer (375mm PVC & 450 HDPE) via combination of open cut and directional drilling in existing streets
- Construction of a new 1500mm diameter manhole over an existing DN600 trunk sewer in the middle of an existing brick paved road
- 200LM of new reticulation gravity sewer (300mm PVC & 355HDPE) via combination of open cut, lift and re-lay and directional drilling in existing streets
- Detailed sewer diversions and reconnections of existing sewer property services and rising mains to newly installed sewer lines
- Decommissioning redundant SPS facilities, pipelines and associated infrastructure
- Service relocation works (HV power, water mains & private Sewer Rising Main relocations.
There was many factors involved with delivering that made this a complex job:
- Community consultation & stakeholder management
- Working in a heavily populated tourist township
- Working outside our normal work area
- Working near existing sewer pump station infrastructure and street infrastructure
- Heavy construction activities in the eye of the public
- Restricted space for all construction activities
- Challenging ground conditions (wet sands and water charged ground)
- Management and programming of key sub-contractors
- Reinstatement of existing brick paved roadways & streetscapes
- Major sewer diversion works that required detailed commissioning plans and contingencies
Delplant successfully and safely delivered the project on time and on budget.
